This Saturday is the date for the NE Ohio Dachshund Picnic - the largest gathering of wieners in one place in the Midwest. On July 10, hundreds of dachshunds and their people will descend upon Plum Creek Park in Kent, Ohio. They come from near and far. They come in wagons and on wheels. Red ones, black ones, spotted ones, mostly white ones. Short hair, long hair, wire hair. Puppies and seniors. They come one; they come many. They come with costumes. They come with squeakers and toys and treats. They come barking, yipping, howling (and some growling).
For a few hours on a hot summer's day, they will rule en mass. The socializing, the games, the food, the money spent, will be all about them: the dachshunds, the wieners, the long dogs, the hot dogs, the sausage dogs, the teckels, the 'hunds.
Back to their homes they will go, tongues panting, tails too tired to wag. New toys, treats and other accessories their bounty.
And Plum Creek Park will fade back to being just a park, like it was, before the invasion of the weens.
If you are coming to the picnic, please stop by our booth to say hello! Mention our blog and receive $5 off a new Hug-A-Dog Harness - the hottest item at this and many other dachshund fests!
